Overview

The customer is a US financial reporting platform that collects data from its clients’ systems and produces regulatory and financial reports on their behalf. Dedicatted runs its AWS platform under a managed service.

The Challenge

Client data arrives through replication from client databases, including pipelines moved over from Azure, and replication used to break quietly.

1. Schema Changes

A column added on a client’s source database stopped a replication task overnight.

2. Silent Lag

Latency grew for hours before reports showed stale data.

3. Unvalidated Data

Nobody routinely confirmed that source and target still matched.

4. Long Parallel Runs

Clients moving from old pipelines needed daily checks through months of parallel running.

Technology & Approach

We brought replication into the managed service with alarms, runbooks and validation, and treated each client migration as a parallel run with a cutover readiness report.

Implementation

Onboarding
Reviewed replication tasks, endpoints, AWS DMS Serverless configurations, table mappings and validation settings, set alarms on latency and task failures, and wrote runbooks for each client.

Monthly Operations
Our engineers respond to task failures and lag around the clock, apply source schema changes to table mappings, reload tables safely and keep replication capacity sized.

Validation
AWS DMS data validation and row count checks confirm that source and target match, with differences investigated and reported.

Parallel Runs
Daily checks and a cutover readiness report for each client moving from its old pipeline.

Customization & Client Adaptation

Regulatory reports depend on complete, current data, so every safeguard points at that.

Runbooks per Client

Each client source has its own runbook covering schema changes, reloads and contacts.

Validation Before Cutover

A client cutover goes ahead only after validation shows source and target match.

Credentials Kept Safe

Endpoint credentials live in AWS Secrets Manager with rotation, never in task configuration.

No Reports on Stale Data

Report jobs check replication lag before they run.

The Results

Replication failures are now handled before reports run, schema changes are absorbed without breaking replication, and every client cutover has gone ahead with validated data.

Long-Term Value

  • Replication that absorbs client schema changes.
  • A repeatable onboarding path for new clients.
  • Validation history available for audits.

Business Impact

  • Reports built on current, validated data.
  • Client migrations completed with confidence.
  • Fewer overnight incidents for the engineering team.
